"High Point Market - Bernhardt Furniture . . . "

Greetings,

Yes - we're still touring through my exciting visit to High Point Market a few weekends back.  There was SO much to see . . . but, we're making great progress working our way through the numerous images from the event.

Today, we come to one of my favourites.  I had the great pleasure of being sponsored in High Point by Bernhardt Furniture - and my tour through their newest collection was clearly a high point (yes, pun totally indented!) of my visit to North Carolina.

The collection was 'right in line with the current trend' - with a portion of the showroom devoted to a clear northern european style of design - but, I can say with all honesty - with a much more 'human scale' than I've seen from other vendors.  Beautiful furniture - but, scaled to fit beautifully into a modern home.

Here are a few of my favourite images  -

Go big (but, not too big), or go home.  The room is dominated by the Belgian Oak Round Pedestal Table - casual neo-traditional style with extraordinary shape and movement.  And the entry is framed by two Belgian Oak Bookcases - crown top, open center sections, lower drawer, side columns open to reveal five adjustable shelvers. Classic timeless.

The clean and modern lines of the Mercer Collection Bedroom - low profile geometric forms, think of color blocking for the home – but, with black being the color . . . and with some modern Asian references just to make things interesting . . . lol.

Since I'm almost always a sucker for some nailhead trim - I'm loving the decorative details on the Cabrillo Dresser hardwood, fully wrapped in Belgian linen, antique nickel nailheads in a classic Moroccan pattern.

The Belgian Oak Gathering Table and Counter Stool -  a great folk/craftsman look. Classic Flemish style with blocking, turned leg, stretcher. Upholstered in charcoal colored leather with double row of tiny nailheads,  in the same tones as the French Truffle wood finish.

From the new "Belgian Oak Collection" - featuring the Rochelle Sofa - warm, aged, weathered effects as evidenced in heavy linen bodycloth and Portobello wood finish with grey lowlights. Monochromatic pillow layers allow you to see the tailored sofa silhouette. This is a character piece for a room, open invitation to breathe a sigh and relax.

And if you're looking for something bright and shiny - here's the Quinton Dining Table -  hammered stainless steel surface, satin finish, restaurant grade - on a trestle base of cerused mindi wood.

From Bernhardt Interior, The Porter Bed - entire bed and slightly curved tufted headboard are fully upholstered in dark chocolate linen.

I actually ran across the showroom to get a better look at the Salon Corner Chairs - in tufted highgloss black aniline leather, and a clever, turned foot. Very sophisticated with hint of both past and present.

But, it was more than just rich, masculine pieces - how adorable are these Juliet Sofas?   Soft sky coloured low sheen bodycloth, with long sloping arm that graduates in size with bright polished nickel ferrules on the feet.

And loving the Connor Chair - modern, classic - with a wide track arm of mirror polished stainless steel and a large-scale zebra print on a natural white hair-on-hide.

finishing up our tour with Heather Eidenmiller and had the great pleasure to meeting Alex Bernhardt Jr, President and CEO.

And again with Heather and Alex Bernhardt Sr, Chairman (and son of founder John Mathias Bernhardt)
Cheers,
Scot

Like everyone else, I really like the Cabrillo Dresser, have seen photos of it, or something similar in alot of design magazines, and every time I see it, it stops me in my tracks, love, love, love it.
It`s fun to see your photos from the exhibits. Those neon sheets would definitely wake me up in the morning!

The salon corner chairs are fabulous...love the tufting and shiny finish and the Cabrillo Dresser...stunning!!
Hey Scot ~ yes you did, actually Run across rooms to see those corner chairs. First I thought, oh jeez I hoped he'd see XYZ we just ran past. Then common sense got the better of me :o) A flush of high excitement (amid oceans of design to take in) I tell ya, that's what makes High Point fun (and work worth doing). Happy designing, Scot ~ Stephanie
Scot - We LOVED having you visit with us in our showroom! So glad we were a "high point". If you think you saw some good things this Spring, just wait until the Fall...Hope to see you then! Heather
