"Hutton Wilkinson for Jim Thompson . . . "

The “Elsie de Wolfe Cabinet” created by Tony Duquette for
Elsie de Wolfe, Lady Mendle in 1941

Greetings,

It seems as if Tony Duquette and Hutton Wilkinson are everywhere I look these days.  I recently had the great pleasure of seeing Hutton when he hosted a luncheon to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of SFERRA Linens at his magical home, Tony Duquette's historic residence Dawnridge.  Have a look HERE for some photos of the amazing afternoon.

Fast forward to Wednesday of this week - I was in Shears and Window (one of my favourite textile showrooms in SF) - when I noticed an entire BOX of fabric samples from Jim Thompson.  Hutton has been partnering with Jim Thompson for several years - and has some new treasures to add to the fabric collection . . .

Here are a few clear favourites -

"DUQUETTERIE," 100% Linen.  55 inches wide.

"Created using Tony Duquette’s archival door panels from the famous “Elsie de Wolfe
Cabinet”  These iconic carved plaster images have been mirrored and paired as a series of recurring patterns with the fantasy “Tony Duquette Foliage”. Seated and standing blackamoore figures, so beloved by de Wolfe, were repeatedly used by Duquette in his work."

Duquetterie Screen Panels,
with Running Dog Silk (available in 9 colour ways)  on the Sofa.

DUQUETTE'S PARIS SNOWFLAKE SCREEN,

available from Baker

Walls upholstered in "SNOWFLAKE," 100% Linen.  55 inches wide
Happy Shopping,
Scot

Truly FABULOUS! TRULY!
Always intricacy of detail-even that graphic running dog! I use one of the fabrics by his collection for a pr of chairs and ottoman. Very pretty and goes beautifully with thinking about updating traditional spaces- pgt

DEAR SCOTT...

IT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME THAT YOU LIKE THE NEW COLLECTION I DESIGNED FOR JIM THOMPSON...

I ALSO APPRECIATE THE COMMENTS FROM VICKIE H AND LITTLE AUGURY... VERY KIND INDEED.

"DUQUETTRIE" INSTEAD OF "MARQUETRY" IS HOW SIR CHARLES MENDL REFERED TO THE SECRETARY DESK, SHOWN ABOVE, WHICH TONY MADE FOR ELISE DE WOLFE, LADY MENDL, IN 1941.

THE FABRIC IS HAVING A HUGE SUCCESSS... RIGHT OUT THE DOOR... AS IT WAS INTRODUCED AT "MAISON D' OBJECT", IN PARIS NOT SO MANY WEEKS AGO!!! I AM VERY PLEASED WITH HOW IT ALL CAME OUT!!!

THE INTERIORS SHOTS YOU SHOW USING THE FABRICS WERE TAKEN FOR THE JIM THOMPSON CATALOG FROM THE ATLANTA DESIGN HOUSE I DID WITH STEPHEN BOYD LAST YEAR. I SO ENJOYED PUTTING ALL OF THAT TOGETHER WITH STEPHEN.

BE WELL AND HURRY BACK TO DAWNRIDGE... ANYTIME YOU ARE IN L.A.!!!

BEST...

HUTTON
I am envious of your visit to Dawnridge! Thanks for showing the big scaled fabrics in use; it is helpful to get an idea of the pattern repeat size

@Hutton -

Don't you worry - I'll be back in LA for a visit soon. I'll be in touch.

Cheers,
Scot
Scot,

I'm listening to your interview for "skirted round table" from a while ago... gee... I love you and your design even more! I feel I've learned something today, after listening to your interview.

Have a blessed weekend,

xo

I do like that mirror in your last image. Can you tell me more about it?
