"The weekend getaway . . . "

Greetings,

Masculine and elegant. Simple and luxurious. Black and white. Mark Badgley and James Mischka.

How much do I love this wonderful residence? Incredibly chic, yet still perfectly functional. The duo behind Badgley Mischka has created this flawless retreat for themselves in the rolling hills of Kentucky - featured in the current edition of Elle Decor.

The black leather sofas and chairs in the living room are both comfortable and built to withstand the onslaught of a dozen or so dogs, “Everybody with a horse comes with a dog—the trainer has one, and the groom—so we made certain the place was bombproof.”
James Mischka

I love the contrast between the sharp, modern furnishings and the light fixtures- practically dripping with crystals. And shockingly, I love the absence of window treatments. I can't believe I said that out loud (!)

Maybe some antique Windsor chairs and Hermes table service for a quiet dinner in the library?

Outdoor seating - simple and comfy - and available from Restoration Hardware. Nice.

Hope everyone has a great weekend,
tartanscot

Scooter- Their home is BEAUTIFUL! When I grow up I want to live in a house just like it! I need to dash out to buy the new Elle Decor!

The only thing that seems strange to me is how loosely the leather is upholstered to the backs and sides of the chesterfields... doesn't it seems strange. Otherwise, everything is impeccable!

-s.
the upholstery work on the sofas does kinda bother me . . . I wonder what it actually looks like in person?

but, that library is amazing!

Love the library with those Windsor chairs - it is unusual and heavy but totally fabulous. xv

o.m.g. LOVE it!!! I have a chesterfield sofa exactly like theirs in brown distressed leather (sans loose upholstering in back). It's unbelievably comfortable. Love the dining/library!

Completely chic and stunning. I have to agree the first thing I noticed was the loose leather on the back of the sofas. But I quickly got over it once I saw the bedroom and library. TO DIE FOR! I cannot believe this is in Kentucky! I live outside of Nashville and its hard for me to believe such style icons being just a few miles up the road! And to think they knew Kentucky existed. haha Great post.
I agree... Masculine and elegant. Simple and luxurious. And while overall I love the rooms, would happily move right into the all black one, the first one was simply too sterile for my tastes. I'd love to see some eclectic touches in the living room to livin it up!
