"Meanwhile Back at the Abbey . . . "



Greetings,

I can only imagine the vast number of you who have been burning through your DVD of the first season of Downton Abbey in the last few days . . . Because season two in premiering on Sunday night. I know we've been working through season 1 over the last few days - just immersing ourselves in the beautiful language, great sets and costumes, and the delicious storyline that IS Downton Abbey.

How will the outbreak of the 1st World War effect all of the characters?  Will Matthew and Mary ever be together again?  What will happen to Thomas?  Will Edith get the just rewards for her actions?  And most importantly - what will the Dowager say next?!?!!?

Tune in on Sunday night to your local PBS station and find out.  And if you haven't been watching . . . I highly recommend it . . .

It's worth watching just to see the house and the furniture.

Thomas and O'Brien are awful. Hope they get theirs this year.

And I'm thinking perhaps Matthew will marry the youngest daughter....but who knows.

Glad the dowager gave away the prize for the best roses.

I have the First Season and my DVR is set for Sunday night!

A glass of wine, fire in the fireplace and Downton Abbey. (oh, and the phones will be turned off - so don't call!)

I'm writing from the UK having already seen the 2nd season. You will not be disappointed. Also, heads up on Great Expectations which will be airing on PBS in the USA commencing on 1st April. Dickens as it should be, dark and sinister and a must see for period drama lovers.

Oh I've watched it including the second season, it is amazing. I find the dialogues very well inspired, nevertheless some characters are useless..at least so far. I would love to find another Costume drama to watch, if you know others I'd be much obliged :).

I would suggest watching the BBC version as opposed to the PBS version. PBS cuts out scenes and switches them around in order to make each episode fit into the time slot. On BBC, the episodes range from 40 minutes to 70. While there's illegal sites to download from, you can also order the unedited BBC version from Amazon. Season 2 comes out at the end of February!

I watched the first season and like it, but I am reading one review after another that predicts that the viewers will want to strangle each and every character on this show about half way through season 2. It is being compared to Knots Landing. But, I will still be tuning in for it.

You are actually the second person who has recommended this program today...I have heard so much about it, but unfortunately have not seen it..So I will have to back track and catch up. Sounds like right up my alley and it is great that it is appearing on PBS!

I watched last season after reading about it on your blog. Loved it! A British friend of a friend recorded season 2 and sent it over; I've been having marathon viewing sessions -- can hardly stop watching! Haven't been disappointed yet! Thanks so much for making your readers aware of this wonderful series!

Luckily for us, we were able to see both seasons .. I am so hooked on the show, I feel like I am going through withdrawal, waiting until the 3rd season is on the air again ... !!

DVR is set ... watched episodes 1-4 yesterday and will finish up 5-7 today through NetFlix. Love it!

Finished off revisiting Season One, Friday night. We will be watching tonight and sipping on Prosecco. Wish we still dressed like that! Love the Edwardian period. Cheers!

Can't wait. 9 - 11 p.m. tonight. Loved season one recommended by a facebook friend (we stumbled over each other re Gareth Malone's series). Don't always like the costume dramas but I think they are getting better and this one has to be number one, so far. Love the costumes and Maggie Smith is my all time favoutite... so it's a fire, wine and Downton...all on a wintery Sunday evening...wow!! Thanks for the heads up Scot.

Season One is available on Netflix streaming. Watched it all in 3 nights over the holidays. So glad Season Two follows so closely behind.

Diogenes: You might think about putting up a spoiler alert for those who haven't seen all of season 1. I'm glad I didn't see your post before I saw that episode.

Unikorna: I have said many times that DA is the best thing that's been made for TV since The Sopranos, and The Sopranos was the best thing made for TV ever. Not exactly 'costume' but kinda.

Scot: DA leaves Upstairs Downstairs in the dust. A much better show. Much better.

I enjoyed last nights airing very much. Some scenes I found rather dull but some characters show new aspects of their personalities. Looking forward to the season.

I watched it last night. "Edith, you're a Lady, not Toad of Toad Hall!" was my favorite Dowager line. Gave the DVD of last season to my mother and am kicking myself that I didn't get a copy for myself. Will watch last night's episode again tonight and polished my silver all weekend in preparation! My friends who don't watch this simply don't get it. So glad to know you are a fan.
